Nine gamers in total tonight, although that was enough to make it pretty warm in the shop, as spring slowly takes hold!
Players:
Darren, Dave F, Mark L, Mark P, Mike, Nick, Rachel, Roj, Stewart
Games Played:
I'm a sucker for a good auction game, and I'd heard that this was one of the best, so I was determined to get it to the table before the numbers got too high to make it awkward. We nearly made it ....
(board + cards)
Nick:
(26 + 15) 41
Mark L: (21 +
15) 36
Darren: (23 + 11) 34
Mike: (28 + 3) 31
Dave: (7 + 23) 30
Roj:
(20 + 5) 25
This is a very good auction game, and one that I'm sure we'll see a lot more of. As none of us had played before, no one really knew what to bid in the first round, and so an awful lot of cards were won for a bid of 9 (which was the most you could bid and only pay with one card). On average, we should all have bought three cards at the end of the first year, but I had managed to grab an extra one, as Dave only had the two cards. The order that the explorers appeared in the third round was a big bonus for me, as I managed to grab a load of extra cards before entering into the final "big" battle with Dave, which I won with a bid of 56! All in all a great game, made much more enjoyable by the fact that I won! :-)
Downfall of Pompeii
We were now up to 8 players, and so we split into two groups of four. This excellent game was played upstairs.
Roj:
10
Rachel: 9 (7
in Vesuvius)
Dave: 9 (11 in Vesuvius)
Stewart: 8
I know very little about this one, although it looks like Roj managed to just stay ahead in a very tight game. On a side note, I have made some efforts to try and get this game to the UK, so hopefully we'll be seeing it in stock before too long!
This was choice of the other group of four.
Mark
L: 50
Mike: 37
Darren: 35
Nick: 29
Mark seemed to have this one sewn up after about the second round. Mike and I made the mistake of running out of cash too early in the game, which made it tough for us for the rest of the game. This was my first game (which would be a great excuse if I hadn't played a load of games online!) ... Maybe I'll just never get the hang of this one! A fun game, which we all enjoyed.
The Pompeii group had gained an extra member, and so they played this fun little filler while waiting for Amun-Re to finish.
Rachel:
(21 + 21 + 23 + 18 + 30) 113
Mark P: (9 +
16 + 24 + 30 + 21) 100
Dave: (17 + 14 + 18 + 13 + 23) 85
Roj: (20 + 15 + 10 + 16 + 17) 78
Stewart: (15 + 17 + 8 + 20 +
16) 76
This is a fun game, and there was certainly a fair amount of laughter coming from upstairs while this game was being played. There were a couple of 30-point rounds, which is a pretty impressive score; but Rachel's lowest round of 18 was a pretty consistent game, and well deserving of the win!
Die Kutschfahrt zum Teufelsburg
As the numbers dropped to 8, we suddenly realised we had just the right number for a quick coach ride (to teh Devil's Castle)
Dave
F: Declared the Victory for himself, Roj, Stewart and Darren.
Mark P,
Mark L, Nick and Rachel all lost.
This was a lot of fun, and seemed to play a little quicker than the last couple of times we played it. This could have been partly due to everyone using the bags a lot more to get all the cards in the game, but could also be due in part to Mark L thinking he was showing us all his Occupation card, when in fact he flipped over his allegiance card and let us all know which side he was on! After that, people quite quickly started to work out who was helping who, and we in the Order would have won the turn after Dave declared the win for the Brotherhood, by rather greedily holding all of the necessary Goblets in his hand!
Keeping the group of 8 all in one place, we had a spare fifteen minutes to play this fun game ...
Darren
Rachel
Roj: All died at the same time as the only remaining players
Mark P
&
Stewart: Tied 4th (killed by Stewart)
Mark L: 6th (killed by Mark P)
Dave: 7th (killed by Stewart)
Nick: 8th (killed by Dave)
As soon as a couple of corners were cut off, this game was destined not to have a survivor at the end. I made the mistake of putting my fate in Dave's hands, and was promptly killed. But then Dave was next to go, which made me feel a lot better. In the end, Rachel had no option but to play a tile which killed the remaining three players all at the same time!
And finally, Mark P announced that he had never played Saboteur, and so - just for a change - we thought we'd humour him and play four rounds!
Stewart:
11
Mark P: 8
Mark L: 7
Dave: 6
Nick: 6
Darren: 3
Roj: 3
Rachel: 1
As usual, this one was a load of fun. We had three Saboteurs in every round, apart from the last one where Roj and I were trying to scupper the plans of the good dwarves, and we really should have too! Stewart and I managed to collect in the first two rounds - both honestly - giving us a slight lead and making us targets! However, Stewart managed a pretty good sabotage job in the third putting him in front, and then he had the assistance of five other dwarves in the final round to make it four out of four! Loads of fun, as always.
And that was all we managed to get played this week. Thanks to those who came along.
