How to find Shire Games

Thursday 3rd May 2007

Just the nine of us in tonight, which made calculating the group sizes pretty easy!

Players:

Andy, Darren, Dave F, Mike, Nick, Rachel, Roj, Sue, Tim

Games Played:

Nottingham

We were quickly up to seven players, and so we jumped straight into this quickie to see who else was coming ...

Darren:    64
Nick:    61
Dave:    53
Mike:    48
Rachel:    36
Andy:    34
Roj:    29

This was fun and chaotic, as per usual. Darren and I had both completed two of the major assignments, but Darren had snuck in a couple of early cheap sets, which were worth a little more than my one (not so cheap) set!

Urland

As we split into two groups, this current favourite of the group made another appearance!

Rachel:    33
Nick:    30
Roj:    26
Darren:    23
Dave:    15

This was a pretty tight game, and went on a little longer than most Urland games, as we were comfortably into the third epoch when I finally reached 30 points and triggered the final scoring. However, Rachel then nipped past me in the final scoring, thanks to some fairly prolific breeding on her part, she'd managed to get way more Ichtos on the board than the rest of us, giving her a well-earned victory.

Yspahan

Meanwhile, the other four players were off to the town of Yspahan ...

Andy:    88
Sue:    72
Mike:    67
Tim:    42

A pretty large margin of victory for Andy in this excellent game. Andy managed to score a massive 27 points from the caravan scoring at the end of the game (he had nine cubes in there), which was impossible for the others to catch, despite Sue giving it a good try with her massive collection of shops.

Wikinger

Eventually, both games were finished and the groups re-shuffled, this time into two groups of four.

Roj:    67
Dave:    61
Rachel:    48
Sue:    34

This game is proving very popular at the games nights as well, and there are a few people eagerly awaiting its release in English! Sue managed to starve 11 of her Vikings by failing to secure the services of enough fishermen, while it looks like Roj and Dave had their attacking ships well enough defended to let them battle it out for first place.

Notre Dame

Meanwhile, the group upstairs went off to Paris to see if they could keep the rats at bay ...

Tim:    60
Darren:    54
Nick:    50
Andy:    47

This was yet another excellent game of this latest Alea title. Tim had his rat population under control pretty early, along with a good supply of cubes and cash. Darren and I were short of both, but struggled along holding the rats back and managing with what we had. Andy, however, gave up on the rats pretty quickly, and the 12 or so points that this cost him throughout the game may have eventually outweighed the number of bonus points he was receiving for his trips to the park. All in all, another excellent game and a good win for Tim.

Gloria Picktoria

And finally ... the Wikinger players had time to squeeze in one last game before the end of the night:

Rachel:    32
Dave:    29
Sue:    27
Roj:    21

I know very little about this little set-collecting game, despite seeing the few last - slightly confusing - minutes and final scoring. Rachel ended a good night with another victory, while Sue seemed to lose out on second place thanks to a fox sitting on one of her sets of chickens!

And that was all we had time for this week. Thanks to everyone for coming along once again.
