How to find Shire Games

Thursday 25th January 2007

Nick was off to London for the Toy Fair so the rest of us sadly had to get on without him …

Players:

Alex, Andy, Darren, Jen, Kev, Mark L, Mike, Mitch, Rachel, Sam, Sue, Tim H, Tim R

Games Played:

Coloretto

The first four through the door decided to start the night off with a game of Coloretto.  I was the only one to have played before.  After 4 rounds, the final scores were:

Alex:  129

Mike:  111

Sue:  106

Tim H:  90

The game seemed to be very intense and I was wondering if I had made the right choice.  It seemed in the end though, that everyone enjoyed it.  Great win for Alex.

Mission : Red Planet

The next five to arrive decided to have a go at this great game which Andy had brought along.

Mitch:    29 + 9 + 8 = 46
Andy:    37 + 8 = 45

Darren:  25

Tim R:  18 + 7 = 25
Rachel:    3 + 8 = 11

Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to get any feedback on this game so I can’t say whether it was enjoyed or not!

Rum & Pirates

A few more people arrived so we changed the groups slightly and three went off to wrangle for a place to sleep:

Sam:    80
Jen:    73
Tim H:    72

Looks like quite a close game.

Hermagor

This is one of my favourite games, and without Nick around, it was left to me to teach it.

Mike:   142
Mark:  130
Kev:     110
Alex:    106
Sue:     97

It was a great game despite my poor score.  I tried a new tactic (for me) of sticking to the outside of the map but it left me unable to complete many regions.  Everyone seemed to enjoy it though and I’m sure it’ll get many more plays.

Hollywood Blockbuster

Meanwhile upstairs, a group of five went off to Hollywood to make some movies…

Rachel:    74
Mitch:    67
Andy:    66
Darren:    62
Tim R:    22

I know very little about this game, but hopefully a good time was had by all.

Saboteur

A couple of people had to leave, so the 10 remaining  joined together for a game of Saboteur….

Mark:    10
Andy:    6
Mitch:    6
Sue:    4

Kev:     3

Alex:    2

Jen:    2

Tim H:    2

Darren:    2
Rachel:    0

The game was accompanied by the usual accusations of sabatorialness (we’ve decided that’s a real word) and loads of fun was had.  Poor Tim H never got to know what it was like to be one of the good guys as he drew Saboteur cards every round!

Wings of War

I had to finish up some stuff before heading home, so the remaining 9 took to the skies…

Darren won.
Kev:      2nd - died by flying off the table
Andy:      3rd - killed by Kev
Alex:      4th - killed by Andy
Rachel:      5th - killed by Darren
Jen:      6th - killed by Kev
Mitch:      7th - killed by Kev
Tim H:      8th - killed by Mitch
Mark 9th:     killed by Kev

Darren won by being the last plane standing, but it was Kev that registered the most kills (he had a nastier plane than anyone else ... the only one with a tail gunner!)

And that was it for a dark January night without Nick.  Thanks to all who came out, especially to Alex for bring muffins and Rachel for bringing brownies!

Sue.
