How to find Shire Games

Thursday 30th November 2006

It had been a busy day ... I apologise if details are a little sketchy. This may well include games I was involved in!

Players:

Alex, Andy, Darren, Jo, Jon, Mark H, Mark L, Nathan, Nick, Simon, Sue, Tim

Games Played:

Robo Rally

The early arrivals disappeared upstairs for some Robo Rally.

Tim:    Winner!
Andy:
Alex:
Darren:
Nathan:
Simon:    Losers

This was over in about ten minutes. I think there was only 1 board and 1 flag, and Tim raced to it before anyone could stop him.

Robo Rally (2)

And so they went again. A slight change of personnel as Darren dropped out to play something else, but the other five went for something a little more complex ...

Andy:    2 Flags (3 Lives left)
Alex:    2 Flags (1 Life left)
Simon:    3rd to Die
Nathan:    2nd to Die
Tim:    1st to Die.

Everyone managed to get their revenge in this, slightly longer game, as Tim's was the first robot to pack up completely and grind to a halt. The game was called before anyone reached the third flag, with Andy in the strongest position at the time.

Catan Card Game

Meanwhile, Jan and Darren were off to Catan ....

Darren:    12
Jon:    9

A close game which didn't take as long as expected, enjoyed by both players. Darren came out on top, but I have no idea what happened!

Hermagor

A favourite of the month so far, as this one made its fourth appearance in as many weeks.

Mark H:    134
Sue:    130
Mark L:    115
Nick:    113
Jo:    80

A good win for Mark in a pretty close game. I managed not to come in my usual last position, but honestly thought I was doing better than I did. Mark played a pretty good game, and we knew it was going to be close between him and Sue for the win.

Nottingham

Meanwhile upstairs, six players went off to Nottingham ...

Simon:    73
Andy:    61
Darren:    57
Tim:    45
Alex:    38
Jon:    36

A good win for Simon in this one. Most had played before, except for Alex I believe. That's about all the info on that one! Oh ... Jon owns the game, which explains his position.

To Court the King

While we were waiting for Nottingham to end up, three of us had a quick go at this dice game.

Sue:    7 Sixes
Mark L:    7 Fives
Nick:    7 Threes

Despite me being miles ahead and taking the King (triggering the game's end and giving me a huge advantage), I then completely messed up my last turn (did I mention I was very tired?) and let Sue's 7 sixes beat my ten dice through some dreadful rolling.

Ra

Two groups of four were left, and the upstairs gang went off to Egypt for some serious invoking of the sun god.

Tim:    51
Simon:    42
Jon:    34
Alex:    17

A little-known game (by me, at least), although I do know that Tim had 30 points-worth of Monuments, which has got to be pretty handy.

Mission: Red Planet

This one appeared for the second week running, but this time I managed to get in a game of it myself! Andy was the only one who'd played before, so the rest of us waited to see what he did, then did it ourselves in our next turn!

(points + bonuses)

Mark L:    (26 + 18)    44
Andy:    (39 + 2)    41
Sue:    (24 + 2 + 9)    35
Nick:    (19 + 8)    27

A good win for Mark, who grabbed a whole bunch of bonus points to nick it from Andy. I managed to lose even more Astronauts than NASA, but luckily I got a point for each one I lost, otherwise I'd have been even further back. A fun game, this one.

And that's your lot for another week. Thanks to all the regulars and those who are not so regular for coming along.
