Thursday 19th October 2006
Once again, we had record numbers this week (and that was without Nick!) , as 19 people squeezed themselves into the shop.
Players:
Darren, Dave, Dave H, David S, Jackie, Jen, Jo, Neil, Jon, Kev, Kev J, Mark H, Mark L, Rachel, Sam, Simon, Steve, Sue, Tim
Games Played:
Rum & Pirates (I)
The first of two goes at this fun game.
Dave:
76
Rachel: 72
Simon: 70
Darren: 64
Nice win for Dave.
Gloria Mundi
While the pirates were wrangling for somewhere to sleep upstairs, some of us decided to make the best of a trip to Rome which turned out to be a bit disappointing and unsuccessful for some of us….
Mark L:
Made it to Carthage
Steve: 11 steps back
Dave H: 17 steps back
Sue: 17 steps back
Kev J: 28 steps back
Kev J had a hard time getting started so we left him behind to cover our trail from the Goth
Metro
With three more arrivals while some of us fled from the Goth and others fought over duvet’s upstairs, a quick game of Metro was played.
Jo:
79
Mark H: 70
Neil: 63
Cleopatra and the Society of Architects
A few others arrived and set off to build pyramids.
Tim:
43 (0 corruption)
Kev: 42 (2 corruption)
Sam: 41
and eaten (3 corruption)
Jen: 41 and eaten (3 corruption)
Not only is it rare to see two people fed to the crocodiles in the same game, but with only 3 corruption as well. Ouch!
Bohnanza
Once Cleo and the pirates had finished upstairs, a big game of Bohnanza kicked off.
Simon:
19 (wins with most cards in hand)
Darren: 19
David: 18
Dave: 17
Jackie: 17
Jon: 16
Rachel: 10
Rum & Pirates (II)
The second of two goes at this fun game.
Sam:
81
Mark H: 68
Jen: 64
Mark L: 62
Kev: 60
Looks like Sam had the best of the bunks by a long way.
Puerto Rico
This was the very first appearance for Puerto Rico at Shire Gamers.
Neil:
43
Kev J: 33
Steve: 29
Jo: 26
Tim: 33
This was the first game for all players except for Jo but was certainly enjoyed by all.
Shadows over Camelot
Meanwhile the gang upstairs decided to have a sit at the round table for yet another game of Shadows over Camelot…
David
Jon
Simon
Dave: All loyal, 10 white swords, 2 black
With no traitor in the game it was a clear-cut victory for the good guys.
Masons
While waiting for Puerto Rico and Shadows to finish, 3 of us set off to build some walls to protect our houses and palaces in a game of Masons
Mark L:
140
Mark H: 120
Sue: 119
Mark L set off at a quick pace with some good scoring cards which made it difficult for Mark H and me to catch up. It ended up a close race for 2nd place.
Blokus
The finisher while waiting for some of the other longer games to come to an end was a quick go at Blokus….
Jo:
10
Tim: 12
Neil: 18
This is a fun little game. It’s quick and easy to learn, and was just right to finish off the evening.
And that was it for another week. Thanks to
everybody who turned up for what was definitely another full house.
Nick will be back doing next week’s scores, for which I am very grateful! Doing them myself has given me a new appreciation for all the work he puts into it. Next year, I’ll have to leave him in charge while I go to Essen!
