Thursday 19th October 2006
Record numbers this week, as we managed to squeeze 18 people in the shop.
Players:
Andy, Becky, Darren, David S, Gordon, Jackie, Jo, John, Kev, Mark H, Mark L, Neil, Nick, Roj, Sam, Simon, Sue, Tim
Games Played:
Hey! That's my Fish!
The first four in started with a quickie, while waiting for others.
Gordon:
31
Mark L: 24
Nick: 23
Sue:
20
Gordon was chief penguin today, as he managed to carve out a nice chunk of ice all for himself.
Fairy Tale
Simon arrived, although we were still expecting a couple (!) more, so we went for another quickie ....
Mark
L: 43
Sue: 39
Nick: 33
Gordon: 30
Simon:
29
This is a fun little game. There's really nothing to it, but for some reason it's extremely enjoyable!
Fische Fluppen Frikadellen
All of a sudden, we were up to 11 people. And by the time we were just about to start this one, we were up to 14! Luckily, it's a game that can handle 15 players all at one, as long as you have the tables!
Neil:
3 Fetishes
Andy: 2
Darren: 2
Gordon: 2
Jo: 2
Kev: 2
Mark H: 2
Nick: 2
Roj: 2
Sam: 2
Simon: 2
Sue: 2
Tim: 2
Mark L: 1
This one was a lot of fun, and a little chaotic. People were up and down the stairs, and there were many times where the numbers were way over on one or two boards, and way under on the others. Something that I hadn't realised until we played it was how many goods would get moved about from board to board! Neil's victory surprised him even more than the rest of us!
Gloria Mundi
With four more arrivals, we split into three groups of 6 players. this was the choice for downstairs.
Nick:
Made it to Carthage
Jo: 6 steps
back
Mark L: 12 steps back
Kev: 18 steps back
Sam: 19 steps back
Gordon:
22 steps back
This was the most one-sided game of this we've played so far, but it's still a great game. I think I was helped by avoiding the wrath of the Goth the first two times he moved, which allowed me to build up some defence to protect my valuable cards with the extra steps on them.
Shadows over Camelot
Meanwhile upstairs, the choice was between running illegal liquor and helping to defend Camelot. These people chose the knightly way ...
Darren:
Won as Traitor
Mark H
Neil
Roj
Simon
Sue: All failed miserably
Darren managed to steal the game from under the noses of the loyal and true knights by falsely accusing one of them, when there was really no way they could be the traitor, as he was! And a pretty sneaky one at that.
Bootleggers
And those that weren't in Camelot were in Chicago ...
David
S: $104,000
Andy: $79,000
John: $71,000
Tim: $59,000
Becky: $36,000
Jackie: $21,000
Don't know much about this one, although there is a surprising spread between the winning and losing scores. Looks like a pretty comfortable victory for David here.
Winner's Circle
And finally, the Gloria and Shadows games finished ahead of Bootleggers, and after a few departures, we were left with exactly 6 for a quick trip to the races.
Kev:
$1,800
Simon: $1,750
Mark L: $1,700
Neil: $1,200
Sue: $1,150
Nick: $850
You wouldn't believe me if I told you I was ahead with one race to go. I got royally done over in the last race, ending up paying $400 for backing the last-placed horse, as well as watching my other picks stumble their way out of the places. A very close game, with Kev just edging it.
And that was everything for another week. Thanks to all who turned up ... that was pretty much a full house!
