Still pretty nippy outside, but .... we don't care anymore! After almost 18 months of Shire Gamers, we have finally located the magic switch that turns the heating on! Huzzah! Now just watch how many people we get as the winter kicks in.
And as Mitch claims to read this .... wanna buy a couple of cheap electric heaters?
Players:
Brian, Darren, David, Jon, Mark L, Nick, Rachel, Roj, Simon, Spike, Sue
Games Played:
Fischmarkt
Once I'd finally stopped running around like an idiot putting stuff away and tidying up, I came downstairs to find a trip to the harbour was already set up on the table. Five fishmongers went bidding for fish ...
Mark:
329
Simon: 312
Nick: 281
Sue: 253
Roj: 221
This was an interesting start to the evening, enjoyed by all. I spent the first three round not getting the right cards for my fish at all, so I was quite pleased to have a good last round and get away from last place. It seemed to be boiling down to a battle between Simon and Mark, but Mark managed to outbid Simon for a bunch of fish that Roj had put on ice at the end of day three.
Hermagor
This one made an appearance for the second week running, after a very impressive debut last week. Sue and I were the only ones who'd played before.
Sue:
109
Roj: 104
Simon: 98
Nick:
89
An excellent win for Sue in a very tight contest. I made a huge mistake at the market in the final round, which led to me having a terrible last selling round, getting no extra production buildings (when I should have had a couple) and getting done over on the main road. having said all that, I wasn't in with a shout anyway (I think I've come last in all my games of this) as Sue, Simon and Roj were battling out a very close-fought and tense affair. Sue had an excellet last round, gaining several production buildings to swing the game her way.
Bootleggers
Meanwhile upstairs, an epic game of Bootleggers was underway ...
Darren:
$115,000
David: $111,000
Jon: $105,000
Spike: $83,000
Rachel: $75,000
Brian: $48,000
I know very little about this one, but it looked like it was pretty close in the end between the top two guys. A good win for Darren.
Space Dealer
And finally, the four downstairs guys went off to space for a little mining, trading and supplying, all under strict time pressure!
Roj: 33
Simon: 28
Sue: 24
Nick: 21
This was a very interesting game, and quite different from anything else! The rulebook is not the best in the world, and the set-up can be quite fiddly when playing the basic game (about which cards to remove, etc) but once we got underway it all fell into place and the game actually flows quite well. I think one or two of us made a couple of rules errors, but when you're all playing at the same time, it can be hard to spot those! Eventually, I suffered from not being able to produce yellow cubes and having to transform all of the cubes I produced, while Roj latched on much quicker than the rest of us, regularly setting out with a spaceship full of cubes to deliver to Sue or Simon, sharing the points around and keeping the majority for himself of course!
And that was that for another week.... thanks to all those who came along once again.
