How to find Shire Games

Thursday 5th October 2006

Appalling weather this week kept the numbers down to single figures. Much easier for the scorekeepers this week!

Players:

Andy, Dave H, Jen, Mark L, Nick, Nicky, Simon, Sue, Tim

Games Played:

Traumfabrik

The first four in were subjected to this one, because I'd brought it with me and I wanted to play it! Luckily, everyone was willing and enjoyed the game...

(Films + Oscars + Cash)

Nick:    (43 + 20 + 14)    77
Andy:    (36 + 30 + 9)    75
Mark:    (51 + 15 + 7)    73
Sue:    (32 + 10 + 16)    58

An excellent Knizia auction game which I didn't think I'd won, as I was desperate looking for a bad director to finish my terrible film and claim the worst movie Oscar, however the extra cash at the end was enough to swing it.

Shadows over Camelot

We were now up to eight players, and in an effort to keep us all together we quickly printed out Sir Bedivere's details and all went off to Camelot. The Monty Python references were flying as usual ...

Andy:
Dave:
Jen:
Mark:
Nick:
Nicky:
Sue:    All triumphant and loyal.
Simon:    A treacherous King Arthur, who lost.

A good win for the loyal knights, who were behind four swords to three, before a combined push saw the Excalibur and Grail quests completed in the same round, giving us a nice 8-4 victory. A couple of us had the wrong man pegged as a traitor, and perhaps King Arthur should have wrongly accused someone near the end, but a satisfying victory nonetheless.

Gloria Mundi

We now split into two groups of four, although Dave left as Tim arrived, and the downstairs four went off to Italy, to flee from Rome!

Sue:    Made it safely to Carthage
Nick:    2 steps behind
Andy:    5 steps behind
Simon:    6 steps behind

This really is an excellent new game, which we are yet to find a number it doesn't work with. Sue was always a step or two ahead of the rest of us, thanks to some useful "food + step" farms. By the last round, Sue had the necessary last two moves whether the turn was farms or peace, and sadly I had no city cards left and had to give her the win. Enjoyed by all.

Celtic Quest

The upstairs four went off to Ireland (is it?) to try out this new game of Mark's.

(Destiny + Quests + Crystals + Reputation)

Tim:    (30 + 7 + 9 + 0)    46
Mark:    (24 + 5 + 9 + 0)    38
Nicky:    (15 + 0 + 18 + 2)    35
Jen:    (4 + 13 + 0 + 4)    21

As demonstrated by the comment above, I know absolutely nothing about this one. I don't even know what the four different scoring categories were, although I believe there were different goals for each player.

Saboteur

And finally .... our usual closer for the week, although only 6 dwarves off to the mine tonight, meaning that there would only be one or two saboteurs per round.

Simon:    9 Gold
Sue:    6
Andy:    4
Nick:    4
Jen:    3
Mark:    1

Simon managed three victories - as did Sue and Jen (although Jen didn't look after her tools very well) - as the honest dwarves found the gold in every round. However, Simon managed to make the connection twice, giving him first pickings in two of the three rounds.

And that was all for another week. Thanks to those who braved the miserable weather and came along.
