Thursday 27th July 2006
Still pretty warm indoors, although maybe a tad cooler than last week, which would account for the extra person one person, making us an almost-full 17 people for this week.
Players:
Darren, Gordon, James, Jen, Jon, Kath, Mark H, Mark L, Neil, Nick, Philippa, Rachel, Russ, Russell, Steve, Sue, Tim
Games Played:
Roma
First in were Mark and Nick, who managed to squeeze in a quick visit to Rome before the masses arrived!
Mark:
13
Nick:
0
I never got going in this one, and was always on a defensive against Mark's pair of Gladiators.
Aquädukt
As more people arrived, some disappeared upstairs for some piracy, while three of us stayed downstairs awaiting more arrivals. This one was just to pass the time ...
Nick:
33
Sue: 29
Steve:
28
A couple of good placements for my 4-house tiles, followed by a little luck in placing the last few houses and opting to finish the game was enough to give me a rare win!
Rum & Pirates
This was the first "larger" game played this evening, and was another fun playing of this great new release from Stefan Feld:
(Bunks + Pubs + Guards + Rendezvous + Maps + Wares + Treasures - Scorpions)!
Gordon:
(15 + 40 + 5 + 6 + 11 + 12 + 4 - 2) = 91
Mark L: (10 +
6 + 9 + 22 + 19 + 6 + 5 -6) = 71
Philippa: (12 + 3 + 0 + 22 + 9 + 2 + 10 - 0) = 58
James: (23 + 10 + 2 + 4 + 0 + 0 + 20 - 6) = 53
Jon: (0 + 18 + 8 + 0 + 17 + 0 + 6 -
4) = 45
From the sound of it, this was another very fun playing of this great dice-rolling pirate game. Gordon once more invested heavily in the pub and came out on top, as he could find no friends to go with him!
Princes of Florence
A long-overdue trip to Florence for myself and a few others, all of whom had played before and fancied some elegance in their games night...
Steve:
58
Sue: 50
Kath: 50
Neil: 49
Nick:
46
Another excellent game of this. Steve played a pretty smart game, and - from a very slow start where he built for the future - pulled off a very impressive victory.
Formula Dé
A trip to Monaco was in order for the remaining seven gamers.
Jen:
1st Place
Darren: 2nd
Rachel: 3rd
Mark H: 4th
Russell: 5th
Russ: 6th
Tim: DNF (Crashed at Portier)
I only know a couple of things about this one: Tim chose to crash very early, so that he could make us all a drink! Russ would have placed much higher, but decided to spin off at the final corner, and Rachel came third despite starting at the back of the grid.
Fische Fluppen Frikadellen
All of the above games finished at pretty much the same time, which gave us the chance to try multi-boarding! Combining two sets of FFF (one upstairs and one downstairs), ten of us had the chance to go trading for weird stuff beginning with "F" ...
Darren:
3 Fetishes
Mark H: 2
Gordon: 2
Tim: 2
Steve: 2
Nick: 1
Sue: 1
Rachel: 1
This was a lot of fun! At one point we had all 8 people on the downstairs board while the upstairs one lay empty! We did do one small thing wrong, in knowing which dealer was on each board, which meant that people only moved when they knew what they needed on the other one, but it was still a lot of fun for a first attempt. With a bit of luck, we'll get 15 people on this one at The Cast are Dice.
Football Tactics 2006
Mark and James opted out of playing with the group to get a game of footie in, despite the lack of available tables!
Mark:
2
James:
1
All I know about this one is that it was 1-0 to James at half time!
Shadows over Camelot
And the remaining seven players were all in Camelot trying to help King Arthur (and boy did he need it)
Philippa:
Victorious undiscovered Traitor.
Kath
Jon
Jen
Russ
Neil
Russell: All lost terribly.
A very good win for Philippa, who successfully had them all thinking she didn't know what she was doing, where in fact she was getting along just fine. 12 Siege Engines won the game for Philippa, who revealed her treachery while placing the last one. It is worth mentioning that the knights had only managed a total of 4 white swords at this point.
And that was everything for another good evening's entertainment. Everyone managed to get in two "longer" games, which was pretty impressive considering how many we were. Thanks to all who came along.
