Thursday 21st September 2006
A warm night and a round dozen (if you can have a round dozen) of gamers in tonight.
Players:
Andy, Dave F, Dave H, Jen, Kev, Mark L, Nick, Russ, Sam, Steve, Sue, Tim
Games Played:
Elasund
This was first game played, with the three early arrivals disappearing upstairs to build and destroy some building in the capital of Catan ...
Dave F:
10
Tim: 4
Steve:
3
I don't know a whole lot about this game, although the scores are probably slightly deceptive. Actually, I'm just trying to be kind to Tim & Steve .... it looks like they were caned by Dave.
Maestro Leonardo
The next people through the door were Mark and Andy, who had previously expressed an interest in this excellent new game, and so we could only oblige....
Mark:
69 Florins
Nick: 45
Sue:
33
Andy: 33
Another great game of this one, although Mark took an early lead and looked hard to stop. Sue and I got into a couple of early battles, spending too much energy fighting each other.
Mag*Blast
All other arrivals jumped into a quick game of this fun space-blaster while waiting for other games to end...
Kev:
Winner (still alive)
Sam: Last to
die
Russ: Next to die
Dave: Second to die
Jen:
First to go.
I know absolutely nothing about this one, being heavily involved in trying to invent stuff for Leonardo! A good win for Kev though, by the looks of it.
Die Dolmengötter
A quick game was called for while waiting for timings to sort themselves out, and as there were 5 players, you can't get much quicker than this one.
Sue:
66
Mark: 61
Andy: 56
Steve: 48
Dave:
44
Another quick and good game of this excellent deeper-than-you-would-expect filler. Sue looked to have it wrapped up, although scores turned out to be closer than everyone expected.
The World Cup Game
All of a sudden there were 9 players looking for something to do, and so this one fit the bill.
Andy
(Belgium) 2 (won 4-2 on penalties)
Dave H (Italy)
2
Nick:
Eliminated at the group stage
As always, this was a really fun game. A good win by surprise finalists Belgium! I was a bit miffed to go out at the group stage, especially after being dealt three fairly decent teams, but sadly the dice weren't my friends!
Ave Caesar
Meanwhile upstairs, the other three players took a team of two chariots apiece to the Circus Maximus for some racing...
Jen:
(2 + 14 + 7) 23
Dave F: (10 +
8 + 3) 21
Tim: (4 + 10 + 6)
20
A three-race session which saw Dave in a very strong position for the first two races, but just failing to cross the line in front in the final race, dropping him down to second place.
Saboteur
And a Thursday night wouldn't be complete without a trip down the mine, and for the first time ever we had the full 10 players ...
Sue:
7 Gold
Dave F: 6
Nick: 4
Russ: 4
Jen: 3
Dave H: 3
Kev: 3
Steve: 1
Andy: 1
Mark: 0
A good win for Sue, who managed three straight wins playing honest-evil-honest. The second round was odd, as we'd never seen such an appalling effort by the honest dwarves as we saw in that one. Sue actually discovering the gold in the third round gave her enough cash for the victory, although she was aided by Mark, who had forgotten he was a saboteur!
And another Thursday drew to a close. Thanks for coming along once again.
