Thursday 20th July 2006
Another extremely warm evening and 16 people in the shop, made things a bit busy and hot! Too many burning brains, I think ...
Players:
Dave, Gordon, James, Jen, Jon, Kev, Mark L, Mitch, Nathan, Neil, Nick, Russ, Russell, Sam, Sue, Tim
Games Played:
Robo Rally
First in was a pre-arranged gang of four, who disappeared upstairs clutching a copy of Robo Rally ...
James:
4 Flags Retrieved
Jon: 3 Flags
Nathan: Died (with 3 flags)
Tim:
Died (with 2 flags)
Don't know much about this one, except the owner of the game is the one in red!
Eco Fluxx
With five people in the building, a quick round of Eco Fluxx was in order while waiting for others to come along.
Gordon:
Winner (Rabbits eat leaves, I think)
Nick:
Russ:
Jen:
Sue: all didn't win.
This one is tricky to say much about, as the game changes so dramatically ... but: Gordon won, after everyone spent a little while drawing 5 cards and playing the lot.
Family Business
Still waiting to see who else was coming along this evening, we all went off to Chicago to eliminate each other's gang of crooks:
Mitch:
1 man left standing
Russ: Last to
fall
Jen: 4th to fall
Dave: 3rd man out
Nick: 2nd man out
Gordon: First to lose his gang
This was a fun little game. The trick is not to start a Vendetta, as this seems to make everyone pick on you immediately. Two vendettas were triggered in this game, by the people sitting at the bottom of the list above.
Blue Moon City
Once we finally decided that we'd got all we were getting, we split into three groups (excluding the Robo Rally players, which was still continuing) and went for some "meatier" games.
Mitch:
4 Offerings
Sue: 3
Offerings
Sam:
2 Offerings
Neil: 2 Offerings
Mitch managed to place his third offering just before Sue claimed the win, at the same time making the cost of an offering too expensive for Sue. By the time Sue had managed to find the extra crystals required, Mitch was back making his game-winning offering. A pretty close game from the report I got!
Power Grid
A four-man delegation (well ... three men and one lady) of power moguls headed off to Italy to see who could come up with the best network of power stations and connected cities:
Jen:
17 Cities (€162)
Mark: 17 Cities (€144)
Dave: 16 Cities
Russell: 13 Cities
This looked like a typically close finish for a Power Grid game, with it boiling down to who was carrying the most cash. Jen managed to edge out Mark by just a few Elektros.
Goa
Meanwhile, the remaining four of us went over to India for some spice growing and colonizing ...
Kev:
43
Gordon: 39
Russ: 39
Nick: 38
This was an excellent game, once we'd all got through the first couple of rounds and got into it. I don't think I attached enough importance to having enough spices, and spent most of the game having "just enough". Kev played a pretty good game from start to finish, although the scores were all a lot closer than we thought they were going to be.
Bootleggers
The Blue Moon City players and Robo Rally-ers either joined together (after some departures) and decided to make some moonshine and try and sell it to various Speakeasies:
Tim:
$132,000
Sue: $103,000
Jon: $99,000
Neil: $69,000
I don't know much about this one, although it looks like Tim came through comfortably at the end. Sue did mention that she was miles behind at the first scoring, and so was very pleased to sneak through into second place!
Aquädukt
The downstairs crowd reduced to 7, and decided to stay in two groups to play a couple of quicker games:
Russ:
35
Gordon: 31
Nick: 26
Kev: 26
A very good win for Russ, who managed to get all of his 4-tiles into strong positions, while the rest of us were always playing catch-up. Russ even managed to get through all of his house tiles, which I'd never seen happen before. Obviously, we should have been building more canals than we did!
Attika
And the other three players were off building cities in Greece ...
Mark:
All tiles on the board
Dave: 2 Tiles unplaced
Jen: 11 Tiles unplaced
I know very little about this one, except that the man explaining the game came out on top ... !
Eco Fluxx
And to end the night, three quick games of the one we started the evening with!
Game 1:
Kev:
Winner (Birds & Insects)
Nick
Russ: Both didn't win.
Game 2:
Nick:
Winner (Insects & Mushroom)
Russ
Kev: Both didn't win.
Game 3:
Russ:
Winner (Oaks & Acorns)
Nick
Kev
Dave
Jen: All didn't win.
I'd just like to mention that the 2nd game was my only victory of the whole evening, and Russ accidentally handed me the win!
And that was all for another evening. A pretty busy evening, a lot of games played, and (hopefully) a lot of fun was had by all.
