How to find Shire Games

Thursday 13th July 2006

Things are returning to (as) normal (as can be expected) here at Shire Games after all the wedding panic and having last week off. Ten players decided to come along this evening.

Players:

Dave, James, Jen, Jon, Kev, Mark L, Nick, Sam, Sue, Tim

Games Played:

Asterix & Obelix

Before anyone else turned up, Sue and Nick managed to get a couple of games of this little Kosmos game in. It's a pretty simple push-yer-luck card game, but the theme makes it so much more enjoyable!

Game 1:

Sue:    3
Nick:    2

Game 2:

Sue:    3
Nick:    2

I pushed my luck a little too far, seeing a lot of defeated Roman soldiers slip from my grasp ...

Saboteur

We were quickly up to 8 players, and thought we'd keep to something short while we were waiting to see if anyone else was coming along.

Tim:    6
Dave:    6
Nick:    5
James:    5
Jen:    4
Mark:    3
Sue:    3
Jon:    2

Tim and Dave had the nugget-lead after two rounds and boasted about it enough that we all decided to pick on them in the third round. Sadly, this resulted in a fight for broken tools, with very little map-work getting done. Despite all that, the honest Dwarves managed to win the last round, but no-one could beat Tim & Dave's scores.

Asterix & Obelix

While we were mining, Kev and Sam arrived and needed something for 10 minutes, and so headed off to Gaul.

Sam:    5
Kev:    2

Looks like a fairly comfortable win for Sam in this one.

The Scepter of Zavandor

The main event downstairs was a game of this new arrival. It's a lovely economic game with a magical theme, but our game did run for quite a long time!

Sam:    65
Sue:    45
Mark:    43
Nick:    37
Kev:    25

This was a good game, and it provoked an awful lot of post-game analysis. I think more games are required to find out how to catch up if you get behind early, as well as how to catch the guy who seems to be running away with it.

Railroad Tycoon

Meanwhile upstairs, a railroad-building trip round the Eastern United States was the (eventual) game of choice.

Dave:    61
Tim:    53
Jen:    46
Jon:    46
James:    37

And those two games took up the rest of the night. A pretty warm one, and a decent turnout. Thanks to all who came along.
