Thursday 7th September 2006
14 people in attendance again this week, although there was a lot of coming and going, and arriving at odd times, so it was pretty hard to keep track of everything ...
Players:
Darren, Dave, James, Jo, Jon, Kev, Mark H, Mark L, Nick, Rachel, Sam, Simon, Sue, Tim
Games Played:
The Nacho Incident
A quick card game to get the early arrivals going. This is another game with a "sense of humour", but there actually is a nice little simultaneous-action game underneath it all.
Sue:
91
Mark L: 72
Nick:
67
Mark and I didn't feel a whole lot better when Sue said that she had no idea what she was doing for the whole of the first round. A nice little game to start off with.
Canal Mania
As the numbers reached 5 with the arrival of Simon and Mark H, Canal Mania was suggested and immediately hit the table.
Mark
L: 68
Nick: 58
Mark H: 54
Sue: 44
Simon:
35
Mark L managed to set up a nice "cube route" pretty early on, scoring him 5 at every opportunity. After that, he smartly decided to go for a bunch of small canals to try for the bonus points, and succeeded (on a 2nd tie-breaker) in receiving the full 10 points.
Ave Caesar
As more people arrived, they shuffled off upstairs to start a 6-player game of this fun racing game.
Sam:
(2 + 6) 8
Kev: (6 + 2) 8
Tim: (3 +
3) 6
Jo: (4 + 1) 5
Rachel:
(4 + 0) 4
Darren: (0 + 4) 4
Sadly, I don't know much about this one. And I can't get my head round the scoring system used either, so we shall just award the game jointly to Sam and Kev.
The Nacho Incident
With the arrival of three more players while everyone was "mid-game", this little card game got an incredible second outing of the evening.
James:
77
Dave: 64
Jon:
60
Another game I know very little about, but a win for James that he seemed particularly pleased with!
Rum & Pirates
After all these games ended, things swapped around a bit. Upstairs there were five players having a go at this fun pirate game.
Rachel:
95
Darren: 68
Tim: 63
Kev: 48
Sam:
38
Rachel dedicated most of the game to spending as long as humanly possible in the pub, with it paying off in a big way financially and victory-pointilly (?). A fairly comfortable win for Rachel in this one.
Tikal
Meanwhile downstairs, four of us headed off into the deepest South American jungle.
Nick:
103
Dave: 102
Sue: 96
Simon: 93
this was an incredibly close game throughout, with three of us level after the third scoring (and Dave just a few points back). With Dave finally capping his 10-temple and making some pretty crafty treasure swaps, I thought he'd stolen the game from all of us, until I spotted a route to an extra few points in the final scoring, just as I was giving up. Very fun game, enjoyed by the four of us.
Fische Fluppen Frikadellen
While we were deep into the jungle, this happened upstairs. I have no idea who won though.
Tim:
?
Darren: ?
Rachel: ?
So I have put them all in joint last place, as punishment for not recording the details of the game!
Ra
And as people departed, we realised that we were a few dwarves short of a mining party, and so we nipped off to Egypt instead.
Simon:
36
Nick: 30
Sue: 28
And that was the end of that. Thanks to those who came out again. See you all soon.
