Thursday 27th April 2006
Another 12 players this week, although yet again a different mix of regulars and some welcome first-timers.
Players:
Jen, Kev, Mark L, Mitch, Nick, Russ, Sam, Sue, Tansy, Tim
Games Played:
Mykerinos
Trying to contain my excitement of this finally arriving in the shop, I grabbed Sue and Mark as soon as they stepped through the door and we sat down to play.
Mark:
70
Nick: 58
Sue: 48
Another winner from Ystari! There is a lot going on here in a pretty short game, and we discovered some Patrons were possibly worth concentrating on a little more than others ... so we won't be letting Mark collect all the purples next time, you can be sure of that!
Pirates of the Spanish Main
While we were off exploring Egypt, Jen and Russ arrived and broke out the pirate ships.
Russ:
17
Jen: 3
This looks like it was a little one-sided! Enough said ...
Mitch arrived and things took a turn for the weird as a charity-shop find (Hedgehog's Revenge) was attempted. This was nipped in the bud pretty quickly, as the dares in the game looked like they needed a cretain amount of alcohol to be amusing!
Around the World in 80 Days
Things got back to normal as we were now up to nine people, and split into a 4 and a 5. This was the game of choice for the group of five, and a welcome return it made too ....
Kev:
71 Days
Mark: 76 Days
Russ: 82 Days
Tansy: 83 Days
Nick: 71 Days to New York, but
couldn't get across the channel in time!
Another fun game .... this one rarely fails to be entertaining. We all got hit by several storms and delays at the start of the game, which ruined any chance of a sub-70 day trip!
Mauerbauer (Masons)
Meanwhile the gang of four upstairs were erecting cities in a mason-like fashion ...
Sam:
171
Jen: 147
Mitch: 135
Sue: 135
This looked like another great game of Masons, and actually drew an audience as it ended a few minutes after our trip around the World! A good win for Sam.
Tikal
The groups were mixed around a little, and three of us nipped over to South America for some more exploring in the jungle.
Nick:
130
Kev: 126
Tim:
122
A very tight game, where I managed to find and corner off a couple of useful temples near the end to swing it my way.
Dino Hunt
Another four players went back in time to hunt some dinosaurs:
Sam:
40
Mitch: 37
Jen:
32
Russ: 32
I don't know a lot about this one, although I did hear that one of Russ' dinosaurs ate one of his other ones!
Castle Merchants
Meanwhile downstairs, a new acquisition of Mark's got an airing.
Sue:
18
Tansy: 16
Mark: 10
And I know absolutely nothing about this one, apart from the fact that I've always fancied a game myself! Mark complained about coming last at his own game, and Sue rubbed it in by saying how easy it was.
Boomtown
And finally .... off to the wild west:
Sam:
91
Russ: 82
Jen: 80
Sam completes a night of victories with a clever bit of mine-management.
And that took us to the end of April for Shire Gamers. Thanks to everyone for coming along.
And "Happy Birthday" to Tim for Saturday!
