How to find Shire Games

Thursday 22nd June 2006

A few less this week, as summer seems to have come to an end already!

Players:

Jen, Mark L, Mitch, Nathan, Nick, Tim

Games Played:

Buccaneer

Three of us were in early, and so we jumped into a quick round of this new pirate-themed game, which is one of the Spiel des Jahres nominations.

Mark:    118
Nick:    116
Mitch:    91

A pretty close game, although we all thought Mark was further ahead than it turned out he was! This game still intrigues me, but I am yet to figure out a strategy, or even if there is one!

Fussball Taktik 2006

We have a demo copy of this game in the shop, and as Tim and Nathan arrived hoping to give it a go, they did.

Final Score:

Nathan:    3
Tim:    1

Hollywood Card Game

Still waiting for others to arrive, we nipped off to LA for a (very) quick attempt to make some half decent movies.

Mark:    19
Mitch:    18
Nick:    17

A very close game, although this one often is. And another win for Mark, although it does belong to him, so we have to let him win.

Fische Fluppen Frikadellen

With the arrival of Jen, and the football game still continuing upstairs, it gave us a chance to try out this new arrival from Germany.

Jen:    3
Nick:    2
Mark:    2
Mitch:    1

A bit of a learning game for everyone. I unwittingly helped Jen get to where she needed to get to for the win by standing in her way. It was an odd game, as we realised a couple of turns out that Jen had it sorted, but none of us had the power to stop her. The game met with slightly mixed reactions, but we were all very keen to try again, especially with the multi-board version. Great artwork, as always for Herr Friese.

Ticket to Ride: Märklin

With the football over, the German theme continued upstairs as Tim and Nathan had a lightning trip round the country while waiting for us to finish downstairs.

Tim:    173
Nathan:    126

A speedy victory for Tim, who played a particularly aggressive game (so he told us) to wipe the floor with his own flesh and blood. Competitive Dad syndrome, I think ...

Cleopatra & the Society of Architects

And finally, after Nathan had to leave us, we had the chance for another game of this excellent new Days of Wonder release.

Tim:    42 (5 corruption)
Mark:    37 (0)
Nick:    37 (6)
Jen:    36 (0)
Mitch:    29 (8 corruption, and fed to the crocs).

I missed out completely on the sanctuaries, while Mitch only managed a small garden all to himself. We then spent the rest of the game expecting to be the one to die, although Jen ending the game one step ahead of Mitch getting rid of a handful of corruption saved me from the jaws of death. Meanwhile Tim did a couple of multi-builds to nab the victory from the rest of us.

And that was that for another week. Thanks again for coming out. See you all again next week.
