Thursday 6th April 2006
Another strong turnout this week, with 11 people gracing our little shop with their presence (and biscuits).
Players:
Darren, Jo, John, Jon, Mark H, Mark L, Mitch, Nick, Rachel, Sue, Tim
Games Played:
Blokus Duo
Mark L and I were first in, and so I thought I'd let him beat me at Blokus Duo (again).
Mark:
-12
Nick:
-18
I must not go towards the corner in the first turn. I must not go towards the corner in the first turn. I must not...
Mauerbauer
Rapidly becoming a firm favourite, both personally and with the group, the three of us thought we'd sneak in a quick game of Masons before the masses arrived.
Mark L:
149
Nick: 121
Sue:
114
A good win for Mark, who was pretty steady throughout. I started well but couldn't keep the cards going, and Sue had a large pause in the middle of the game where she just couldn't score points.
Guillotine
Mitch and John arrived and grabbed Guillotine for something quick to do while Mauerbauer was finishing.
Mitch:
57
John: 41
A bit sketchy on details for this one ... Mitch seemed to have the game under control from what I overheard!
Railroad Tycoon
All of a sudden we were up to 11 players, and so we split into a 6 and a 5. This was the 6 ...
Tim:
59
Darren: 56
John: 41
Sue: 41
Rachel: 37
Jo: 33
Another one I know little about. This sounded like a fun game from all the noise coming downstairs, and Tim came out on top, although it looks like it was very tight between the top two.
Fury of Dracula
Mitch bought Fury of Dracula, and it didn't take long to get 4 other volunteers to try it out for him. A random Dracula-choosing gave the role of the Prince of Darkness to Jon.
Mark H
(Sir Godalming): Alive
Mark L (Dr Seward): Alive
Mitch (Mina Harker): Alive
Nick (Van Helsing): Alive
Jon (Count Dracula): Not
Alive
The rulebook took some going through, and once the game started we realised that most of it was actually printed on the cards! A fun game, with the occasional (!) pun thrown in for good measure, as well as our best Sesame Street impersonations. We finally cornered the count as he was leaving Castle Dracula at noon. Possibly not the best time for him to go for a stroll.
California
John had to leave us. The remaining five split into two little groups, and this is what three of them played...
Rachel:
(4 + 12 + 12) = 28
Jo: (4 + 11 + 11) = 26
Sue: (6 + 7 + 12) = 25
Another game I don't know enough about. I can only assume the points are (gifts + bonus tiles + rooms). A good win for Rachel, and Sue - who was the only one who'd played before and always beats me - didn't do so well.
Wings of War - Famous Aces
Finally, a couple of games of this were played by Tim and Darren.
First Game:
Tim & Darren: Both lost (somehow) by falling off the table
Second Game:
Darren fell off the table again, shortly before Tim did.
And that was it. A good crowd, some good games, and doughnuts. Thanks all for coming.
