Thursday 1st June 2006
Another 11 players made it into town tonight for a few games ...
Players:
Dave, Gordon, James, Jon, Mark L, Mitch, Nick, Philippa, Sam, Steve, Sue
Games Played:
Roma
Steve and Nick were first in (for a change), and - with a little time to kill - Nick decided to teach Steve how to win at Roma.
Steve:
29
Nick:
7
Quite a long game, although I was always playing catch-up to Steve's pair of Forums (Fora?). Many unsuccessful catapult attacks signalled the beginning of the end, although at least I held onto a few victory points at the death!
Cleopatra
By the time Roma was done, we were up to 8 players and knew of two more on the way, so we set up a couple of games. Upstairs, five intrepid architects went off to Egypt ....
Gordon:
51
Jon: 44
James: 41
Philippa: 33
Mark: Fed to the Crocodiles (53)
I don't know much about this one, although we did hear the rumour that Mark had been fed to the crocs. At least he had the most points, which takes some of the shame away. Looks like a good win for Gordon, otherwise.
Warrior Knights
This was the choice of the downstairs crew. As this was a new one to everybody, there was a fair amount of rules reading going on at the beginning, which took almost as long as it took to build Cleopatra's palace upstairs!
Mitch:
18
Nick: 11
Steve: 11
Dave: 8
Sam: 7
Mitch took control of this one about half way through, and - even with some ganging up - it became pretty tricky to catch him (obviously, otherwise we might have done!). Mitch was the only one to sail to foreign lands, receiving a gift from the Pope for his trouble. After that, he bought enough influence to keep him comfortably ahead. this was a good game, although definitely a learning game as well, with a fair amount of looking up stuff to keep the game going. Enjoyed by all, though ... despite taking all night to play!
Ticket to Ride: Europe
Having finished building palaces, the upstairs crowd decided to take a trip round Europe, sticking with the Days of Wonder theme ....
Gordon:
123
Mark: 104
James: 96
Philippa: 91
Jon:
57
Another win for Gordon, who was obviously having a good night. Jon's score makes me think that he may not have completed his long ticket.
Ca$h & Gun$
And finally, Sue managed to get in a game, as Gordon decided to quit while he was ahead! And it was another game of this fun (and silly) closer ...
Jon:
$130,000
James:
$120,000
Sue: $70,000
Philippa: $70,000
Mark:
Dead.
Looks like a pretty close battle between Jon and James for this one. And Mark managed to get himself killed for the second time in one evening. It couldn't happen to a more deserving person!
And that was that. Well ... once Warrior Knights finished, that was that. Thanks to those who came along.
