To make a nice change after last week's power cut, we had heat and light this week! Another small crowd on a chilly evening.
Players:
Mark, Neil, Nick, Sam, Sue
Games Played:
Polarity
First up tonight was a quick game of Polarity for Sam and Sue, while I was pottering around getting ready for the evening.
Sue:
Quite a lot
Sam: Not as many
I don't know much about the game, but it's definitely one of those that helps if you've played a few times before!
Dolmengötter
Shortly after that, we were up to four players and decided to try out this nice little game of stone circles again. It's a pretty simple game and very easy to get into, and yet it seems to have that little "something" which makes it very enjoyable.
First Game:
Sue:
70
Sam: 70
Nick: 64
Mark:
51
Second Game:
Mark:
67
Nick: 58
Sue: 57
Sam:
54
We ended up playing a couple of games, as the first ended in a tie which we all enjoyed. The second game's result was pretty much a reversal of the first one!
Boomtown
Still waiting for one more definite arrival, we thought we'd have a quick visit to the mining towns of Boomtown for some auctioning and backstabbing!
(mines + mayors + cash)
Sue:
(47 + 15 + 62) = 124
Nick: (35 + 0
+ 52) = 87
Sam: (46 + 10 + 26) = 82
Mark:
(39 + 0 + 10) = 49
We have no idea where Sue got all that cash from! She did have three mayors from fairly early in the game and managed to hold on to them, but she absolutely wiped the floor with the lot of us!
Caylus
Neil arrived and - by special request (and no objections) - Caylus was brought to the table for a nice and friendly five-player session (!)
Mark:
60
Nick: 52
Sam: 47
Neil: 44
Sue:
35
This was a really vicious game right from the off! The provost spent most of his time getting as close to the bridge as possible, shutting down as many buildings as he could each turn. The game was punctuated - as always - by a lot of forehead-slapping as people made a series of schoolboy errors! Mark went to the Mason with no stone, Neil did the same, having just sold his stone at the market, Neil tried to build a stone building but forgot to visit the Mason, and - possibly worst of all - I spent my last couple of turns planning a major coup, managed to get exactly the right cubes I needed to build a big blue building and claim an amazing victory, only to realise I didn't have a residence to upgrade! One of the best Caylus games we've had.
And that thrilling game of Caylus brought us to 11.45pm, and time we were all at home! Thanks to those who came out once again.
