Thursday 23rd March 2006
A few people called in sick yet again this week, and still we hit our now regular number of 6. One day, the weather will cheer up a bit, people will get healthy, and we'll get a regular 10 or so ....
Players:
Jo, Mark H, Nick, Sam, Sue, Tim
Games Played:
Lost Cities
Sue and I were raring to go a little early this week, so we thought we'd have a few round of Lost Cities. We planned to play 5 hands, but said we'd call the game as soon as anyone else arrived.
Nick:
242
Sue:
131
This went for four hands, and then Tim came along and saved me from Sue's famous last-round 150 point comeback.
Manhattan
Looking for a quick 3-player game, we decided on Manhattan. Easy to teach and quick to play ...
Tim:
79
Sue: 58
Nick:
55
Tim absolutely killed the pair of us. I wonder if we ended up fighting too much amongst ourselves, or whether we were just comfortably outplayed! I'm hoping it was the second one. That or beginner's luck, anyway!
Elfenland
By the end of Manhattan, we were up to 6 players. Time for a good game of Elfenland ...
Mark:
19 (5 cards in hand)
Sam: 19 (1
card)
Sue: 19 (1 card)
Nick: 18 (4 cards)
Tim: 18 (1 card)
Jo: 18 (0 cards)
A really close game this one, with all the roadblocks going down in the last round, messing up everyone's chances of getting all 20 parcels. Mark was able to grab a last pair with fewer cards, taking him up to 19 with the most left in his hand.
Bohnanza
Sam had to leave us, after Elfenland took a little longer than expected (!), and so the five of us went bean farming. There's a title Enid Blyton missed out on.
Tim:
16
Nick: 15 (6
cards in hand)
Mark: 15 (5 cards)
Jo: 13 (4 cards)
Sue: 13 (3 cards)
Another really close game, and a second win for Tim in the evening. Everyone claimed they were in a winning position if they'd have had one more turn, but it's what's on the scoreboard that counts!
And that was it for another Thursday. Thanks to all who came along.
