Thursday 23rd February 2006
A slightly healthier number of 9 people for tonight, despite the fact that the weather is never going to warm up ...
Players:
Gordon, Kev, Mark H, Mark L, Neil, Nick, Sam, Sue, Tim
Games Played:
Bucket King
With four of us already in, a quick round of the original (and slightly larger) Bucket King was proposed as an opener. We played until there was just one pyramid left.
Gordon:
6 remaining
Sue: Last to
go out
Mark H: 3rd Placed
Nick:
Comfortably Last!
We just couldn't get to Gordon's pyramid of buckets. I guess he was helped slightly by me sitting next to him, as I forgot to pick up cards so often, my animals became a little ineffective!
For Sale
Now up to 5 players, but still waiting on at least a few more "any minute now" arrivals, we stayed with the quick fillers and went buying and selling property.
Gordon:
56 + 7 = 63
Mark L: 48 + 6
= 54
Nick: 52 + 0 = 52
Sue: 43 + 4 = 47
Mark H:
38 + 5 = 43
Another win for Gordon, who had started the night pretty well. I had spent all of my coins by the second auction, and so I was fairly relieved not to come last again!
Ys
We finally stumbled towards 8 players, and split into two groups of four, in order to play a couple of recent Shire Gamers favourites.
Sue:
93
Nick: 88
Gordon: 82
Neil: 72
Another excellent game of bluff and bidding, with Sue winning once again, thanks to a tidy 7 black gems and a very even showing in the King's Court (11-11-11-10, with Gordon missing out on the shared points).
Elasund
Meanwhile upstairs, they were trying to build the fist city of Catan ...
Mark
H: 10
Mark L: 5
Sam: 5
Kev: 4
A pretty close game, with a lot of viciousness in the mid-section. I nipped upstairs to have a look about half way through the game, and the city looked like a bomb had hit it - there were more holes than buildings! however, Mark H took the game with a sweeping two-building turn which grabbed him 4 points in one go.
Rumis
A Shire Gamers debut for Rumis, thanks to Mark H bringing his copy along.
Mark
L: 12
Kev: 11
Sam: 10
Mark H: 6
I know nothing about how this game went. In fact, I'm only guessing that the person with the most points wins!
Il Principe
And to end the night downstairs, we had another game of this great little game from Emanuele Ornella, discovering that we played quite an important rule wrong the last time!
Nick:
66
Neil: 43
Gordon: 39
Sue: 35
Tim: 35
A game which we all liked the first time we played it was improved further by playing it correctly! I benefited in the early stages from having the major role in a colour which then appeared in every city built during the second round.
And that was the end of another evening. Thanks again for turning out.
