Tuesday 10th January 2006
Our own version of the plague is still running through all of the Shire Gamers, and so we had a couple of cancellations again this evening!
Players:
David, Jackie, John, Jon, Mark, Nick, Sue
Games Played:
Breakaway Rider
Mark, Sue and I were first to arrive, and so we had a quick game of this one while we were waiting for everybody else.
Sue:
1
Mark:
0
Nick: 0
We only managed to play one stage, which Sue won by ending the stage with a Hill Climb, stopping anyone else overtaking! Sneaky ....
Vegas Showdown
With the arrival of John and Jon we were up to five - the perfect number for another game of Vegas Showdown. We had played this on Thursday and were pretty keen to give it another go.
Mark:
52
John: 42
Sue: 39
Nick: 38
Jon:
35
Another great game of this, which everyone enjoyed. Mark managed to get both bonuses for income and population, which helped his end score very nicely indeed!
Citadels
Jackie and David arrived just after we had set up Vegas Showdown. As no-one else appeared to be appearing, they set off for the other table and a couple of games of Citadels while we built casinos.
Game 1 (with slightly incorrect rules):
David:
32
Jackie: 23
Game 2 (with proper rules):
Jackie:
32
David: 13
Which, in my eyes, makes Jackie the overall winner of the two-leg contest!
Princes of Florence
Now we swapped things about a little, and split into two groups. The four players on the main table went off to Italy.
Jon:
56
David: 50
Jackie: 45
Sue: 40
I don't know a lot about the game, but it is nice to see Jon winning one of his own!
Elasund
And the remaining three of us went off to the island of Catan to try and build the first city: Elasund.
John:
10
Nick: 9
Mark: 8
This was an excellent game from the word go. Mark nearly won very early on, when we had let him get 8 cubes on the board, as we only had a couple each, but I unwittingly stopped him by rolling the Pirates at just the right moment. After that, we were all placing cubes at pretty much the same times, slowly creeping towards the win. John played a great game to get there first, but Mark and I were possibly also going to get there in the next turn or two. A really tight game ...
And that was it for another week. See you all again next time!
