Thursday 9th March 2006
Another six this week, but half of them different to last week's six! One of these days, we'll all get our acts together and turn up at the same time!
Players:
Jo, Mark H, Neil, Nick, Sue, Tim
Games Played:
Condottiere
With six of us arriving at pretty much the same time, we thought we'd find something quick and six-player, while waiting for anyone else that might be coming.
Neil:
3 Connected Cities
Jo: 3
Unconnected Cities
Nick: 2 Cities
Tim: 2 Cities
Sue: 1 City
Mark H: 1 City
This was the first game of Condottiere for all but Jo and Mark, and it proved to be a really tight battle. A fun game, never knowing whether to go all-out to try and win a city, at the risk of losing a bunch of precious cards a play of a Bishop by someone else!

We decided we were the only people in this week, but also chose to play 6-player games rather than split into two groups of three.
(chips + plus-points - minus-points)
Tim:
90 + 230 - 50 = 270
Mark H: 50 + 220 - 0 = 270
Sue: 30 + 240
- 10 = 260
Neil: 60 + 150 - 0 = 210
Jo: 80 + 160 - 50 = 190
Nick:
50 + 160 - 60 = 150
Three of us had played this before (Neil, Sue & Nick), but it was pretty quickly picked up by the rest. I was quite surprised how much the layout kept getting destroyed, to the point where you couldn't do much forward planning. Having said that, the game still moved along pretty quickly, as there are quite limited choices each turn. A good joint win for Mark and Tim, with Sue - despite her lack of chips - only ten points behind.
Hoity Toity
With about an hour left, this seemed like the perfect choice to close the evening.
Jo:
+ 3 spaces
Nick: +1
Mark: -3
Neil: -6
Sue: -9
Tim: -11
Jo managed to fly into a lead by some very smart stealing and exhibiting, but then hesitated a little at the line, in order to bolster her final showing. As it turned out, Sue managed to nab the 8 point bonus by a single antique, but the four points for second was enough to nip past me in the dining room for the win.
And that was it for another week. Thanks to all for coming along.
