Thursday 9th February 2006
A quiet night again tonight, with a few illnesses and the cold weather once again keeping people indoors.
Players:
Mark, Neil, Nick, Sue, Tim
Games Played:
San Marco
We thought we'd start with a game that is rumoured to shine with three players:
Mark:
57
Nick: 48
Sue:
31
A first outing for San Marco, and we managed to skip a couple of vital rules in the first couple of rounds, while I was running away with the game. Luckily, we managed to get everything straightened out in time for me to get caught up in round 3!
La Cittą
I've been trying to get a five player game of this one to the table for weeks ...
(citizens + bonuses - penalties)
Neil:
(30 + 12 - 5) 37
Mark: (27 + 6
- 5) 28
Sue: (22 + 3) 25
Tim: (22 + 3) 25
Nick:
(8 + 3) 11
An excellent game, and extremely tight for space. If I didn't keep having my cities destroyed by greedy people either side of me, we'd have never had enough room to get them all on the board! Neil's first Shire Gamers victory, and it was a landslide thanks to some smart three-colour placements in his four cities.
Modern Art
With La Cittą taking quite a while to finish, we just had an hour left for a quick tour round some of the World's finest (?) art galleries ...
Nick:
449,000
Mark: 423,000
Neil: 418,000
Sue: 398,000
Tim:
258,000
As usual with Modern Art, none of us had a clue who was winning, and it was just as much of a shock to me that I came out on top! I thought Mark had it comfortably, Mark thought Sue had it, etc... I didn't manage to buy a whole load of paintings, but made most of my cash from selling high. Another fun auction session.
And that brought us to the end of a chilly night in Hanley. Thanks to those who came along.
