How to find Shire Games

Thursday 2nd March 2006

A few absentees this week, as we ended up with a nice 6 ... all the better for staying in one group and taking the whole night playing Robo Rally!

Players:

Kev, Mark L, Nick, Sam, Sue, Tim

Games Played:

California

With four of us already in, we thought we'd give this one a try while waiting for anyone else

(gifts + rooms + bonuses)

Mark:    (3 + 9 + 5) = 17
Sue:    (5 + 11 + 0) = 16
Tim:    (2 + 9 + 5) = 16
Nick:    (3 + 10 + 0) = 13

This is a really fun little game. It plays quick, there's a lot of "doing the thing the next guy was about to do", and it's generally a nice opener. I seem to be terrible at it, though, as I managed to forget a guest at one point. Then again, so did Tim and he managed a more respectable score.

Robo Rally

We opened up Tim's shiny, new copy of Robo Rally, had a quick scan of the rules, said something along the lines of "beginners maps are for wimps" and spent the rest of the evening trying to visit three flags each without getting destroyed!

Mark:    3 Flags
Nick:    2 Flags (and diagonally adjacent to the 3rd, I'd like to mention!)
Sam:    2 Flags (and making a pretty good sprint for the last)
Tim:    2 Flags
Kev:    1 Flag (and close to the second)
Sue:    1 Flag

This was a lot of fun and everybody had a great time with it. Of course, we were all pretty upset when Sue's robot was destroyed and her archive marker was still at the start, but we got over it. And I was very, very close to pipping Mark to the final flag ... I just didn't get the cards on the last turn (honest).

And that took us all night! Thanks to those that braved the -5 temperatures to come out.
