How to find Shire Games

Thursday 2nd February 2006

After the shock(?) closure of Churrasco's, we are momentarily down to one games night a week while we look for a new Tuesday (or Monday) location. And this is it...

Players:

Kev, Mark, Matt, Nathan, Neil, Nick, Sam, Sue, Tim

Games Played:

Ra

First up tonight was Ra - it must be a good couple of weeks since this last made the table, and I was beginning to get withdrawal symptoms!

Tim:    32
Sue:    31
Nathan:    30
Matt:    27
Nick:    12

That turned out to be a pretty close-run thing, although I was out of the running pretty early on, having only managed to buy one tile in the first round, and then getting over-greedy to compensate in the second!

Palazzo

While Ra was going on, the four other arrivals started a quick (supposedly) game of a different Knizia auction game

(bonuses + windows)

Mark:    (12 + 22)    34
Kev:    (12 + 21)    33
Sam:    (12 + 20)    32
Neil:    (9 + 11)    20

The second extremely close game of the evening saw Mark winning by a single window!

Blokus

While Palazzo was still going on, we had time for a quick Blokus before Nathan had to leave us.

Tim:    -7
Nick:    -15
Matt:    -19
Nathan
:    -23

After Nathan and Matt got tied up, this fell down to a battle between Tim and I, but with Matt's last move, he interfered with what would have been my master-stroke (honest) and Tim managed to fit those couple of extra pieces in and claim the victory.

Railroad Tycoon

After Nathan had left, we were down to two groups of four players, and - taking advantage of the upstairs being all tidy again - one group snuck upstairs for a game of this excellent (and big) train-fest!

Mark:    78
Sue:    57
Tim:    51
Matt:    38

Don't know much about this game, but it looks like a nice win for Mark, with Sue sneaking in to second place with her bonus points for being the richest player.

Goa

Meanwhile downstairs, a four-player game of Goa was underway. This was the first game for three players, and the first time I'd played the game with the full complement.

(development + colonies + symbols + extras + cash)

Sam:    (25 + 10 + 1 + 8 + 0)    44
Nick:    (28 + 10 + 4 + 0 + 0)    42
Kev:    (14 + 10 + 15 + 0 + 0)    39
Neil:    (25 + 10 + 0 + 0 + 3)    38

Another to add to the night of close finishes, this one only had a spread of 6 points from first to last! A great game, and Sam's monopoly of the red "income" tiles paid off at the end.

And that brought us to midnight and the close of another session. Thanks once again to all those who came along.
