Thursday 27th October 2005
I think we had a total of 12 people in the shop this week, although only Mark, Jasper and Nick were there before 7pm, and so we maybe didn't get as many games in as we could have!
Players:
Anthony, Cat, James, Jasper, Jon, Kev, Mark, Mitch, Nick, Philippa, Sam, Tansy
Games Played:
Blokus
While waiting for everyone to arrive, Jasper, Mark and Nick tried a quick three-man game of Blokus, desperately trying not to let the mystery fourth person win it!
Mark:
20
Nick: -10
Jasper: -15
Ra
We were still waiting for others, and it got to the point where we decided we may as well play something a bit longer rather than stand around!
Nick:
32
Mark: 31
Jasper: 28
This was an incredibly close game of Ra, with Jasper getting caught at the end with the lowest Sun total and Nick with the highest, making last and first swap places!
Blokus
While the three-player Ra was going on, Philippa, Jon and James arrived and decided to have a game of Blokus while it was still out on display.
Jon:
-3
James: -15
Philippa: -27
For Sale
While all this was going on, we had four more arrivals. In a desperate effort to get all the games to end at the same time, they disappeared upstairs with a copy of For Sale ...
Tansy:
62
Kev: 61
Sam: 53
Mitch: 47
Another very close game, with Tansy snatching the victory away from Kev by a single point.
King's Breakfast
Trying to get all the games to end at the same time wasn't working very well! The Blokus game finished well before the others, and so they decided to fill in with a quick King's Breakfast:
(wine + bread + cheese + chicken + ham + fruit + cake)
Philippa:
(8 + 8 + 6 + 4 + 6 + 28 + 24) 84
James: (12 + 16 + 0 + 0 + 9 + 14 + 12) 63
Jon: (0 + 8 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 14 + 12) 34
Beowulf
With all the games ended at the same time (finally!), four guys disappeared upstairs for a game of Beowulf while the remaining eight of us had a quick exploration of some mines before we lost a couple of guys to work and puppies!
Mark:
29
Philippa: 26
Jon: 23
James: 17
Judging from the noise coming from upstairs, this was yet another lively and fin game of Beowulf. I personally am still yet to play it with more than two ... I must try and get a four or five player game of this one soon!
Diamant
I was steering (again), and so we were expecting at least one mine to be a complete write off (and it was)!
Kev:
21
Tansy: 17
Sam: 16
Nick: 16
Mitch: 13
Jasper: 7
Cat: 0
Anthony: 0
Power Grid
We dropped down to six players (thanks to Jasper and Anthony for coming!) and so we grabbed Power Grid, as I'd been wanting to get this to the table for a few weeks now. Cat started the game as the red player, but had to leave due to illness and was replaced by Mark, who appeared just after the Beowulf game finished.
Cat/Mark:
12 cities, 12 powered (14 Electro remaining)
Mitch: 12, 12 (skint)
Sam: 11, 11
Nick: 11, 11
Tansy: 8, 8
Kev: 8, 8
Diamant
Following Beowulf, and with the Power Grid game still going strong, the Ruby and Diamond mines got two more visits:
Game one:
Philippa:
20
Jon: 15
James:
14
Game two:
James:
43
Philippa: 43
Jon:
17
And that was that for another Thursday night.
Thanks to everyone for coming once again.
