How to find Shire Games

Tuesday 25th October 2005

A fun night in the pub with 10 of us in total.  A couple of successful dice rolls as well, if I remember correctly!

Players:

Anna, Gordon, Jasper, Jean, Jon, Mark, Mitch, Nick, Sue, Tim

Games Played:

StreetSoccer

Mark and Nick managed to squeeze in a quick 2-player game before everyone arrived. This week it was the return of StreetSoccer.

Nick    1
Mark    0

King's Breakfast

Sue then arrived, and the three of us managed a quick (and very close) brekkie with the King!

Mark: 85
Nick: 82
Sue: 81

Diamant

With the arrival of Jean and Gordon, we decided to have a quick run into the mines looking for gems. I was steering, which is usually a recipe for disaster...

Jean: 29
Nick: 24
Gordon: 7
Mark: 7
Sue: 3

I went into the last round of that game thinking I was behind Jean (I completely forgot that I'd taken some gems all to myself in the third mine!) and so I foolishly stayed in the fifth mine until I was overcome by the gas (I'm not saying whose) when I should have run!

StreetSoccer

While we were in the mines, Jon and Tim arrived and had a game of StreetSoccer while they were waiting.

Jon    3
Tim    2

Tim supports Wigan - that should explain the loss.

Cloud 9

So now we were waiting for the footballers, and we therefore decided to go ballooning.

Gordon: 60
Mark: 57
Nick: 50
Jean: 41
Sue: 36

Ra

We finally got our timing coordinated and - with the arrival of Anna and Jasper - we were the perfect number to break out a couple of longer games. Caylus took centre stage on the main table, and we nipped off to Egypt in my shiny new copy of Ra!

Sue: 32
Jasper: 29
Anna: 28
Nick: 23
Jean: 19

Caylus

A five player game of Caylus, played on the main table. Mark, Tim, Mitch & Gordon had played before, while it was the first game for Jon.  Mark got the Cathedral built just before the end of the game, but Gordon ended the game with a huge stash of gold ... was it enough to steal a victory?

Mark: 70
Gordon: 69
Mitch: 61
Tim: 48
Jon: 48

... nope.

Carcassonne

While Caylus was still going strong, the five players of Ra went off to Carcassonne, using the basic game along with the Inns & Cathedrals expansion. An odd game of Carcassonne, as no-one bothered to farm at all until the very end of the game, when Sue laid a Meeple in the largest area and claimed a game-winning haul of points.

Sue: 86
Jasper: 66
Nick: 62
Jean: 59
Anna: 45

And that was it. A good selection of games played, although I had wanted a game of Power Grid .... maybe I'll try to get that in on Thursday instead!

Thanks everyone for coming once again.
