How to find Shire Games

Tuesday 22nd November 2005

Another very quiet night at the pub, as the weather again got the better of us, I guess ...

Players:

Brian, Mark, Nick, Sue, Tim

Games Played:

Ra

The evening started with just Mark, Sue and Nick playing a couple of games, and so we opened with Ra, in the vain hope that some more people would show up and knowing it only takes half an hour!

Mark:    52
Sue:    44
Nick:    29

We let Mark grab a complete row of his own at the end of the third epoch, which seemed to finally decide a game which Mark had looked good in, since he managed to get a set of four Pyramids.

Mesopotamia

Time for another quickie (still expecting more arrivals at this point), and so we turned to this new arrival in the shop.

Nick:    4 Offerings
Sue:    3 Offerings (7+4+2)
Mark:    3 Offerings (6+4+2)

Another very close game, with Sue and Mark only one step behind me. I did manage to build two Holy Places in the same turn, which seemed to swing the game in my direction.

Keythedral

Time for Mark to break open one of his new purchases, and this became a first play for all three of us.

(tiles + cubes)

Nick:    72 + 7 = 79
Mark:    50 + 8 = 58
Sue:    44 + 10 = 54

This seems to be a great game, which the three of us enjoyed a lot. I definitely had the best set-up of cottages, as I earned more cubes every single turn except the final one. I guess the next time, we'll know a little bit more what to look out for at the set-up phase.

Blokus Duo (x3)

While we were finishing off Keythedral, Brian and Tim arrived and had a few quick games while waiting to join us.

Brian:    -11        Tim:    -26

Brian:    -16        Tim:    -23

Tim:    -14           Brian:    -24

Three games, and a 2-1 overall win for Brian.

Modern Art

We had about an hour left at the end of the evening, and so we decided that Modern Art would fit the bill. I quickly explained the game to Tim and Brian, and we were off to the art galleries ...

Tim:    347,000
Sue:    343,000
Nick:    313,000
Mark:    309,000
Brian:    273,000

A very good win for Tim, who manipulated the artists' popularity to his advantage very well indeed. I knew I was out of it, after I got greedy on a fixed price auction and four players practically passed in unison! Tim got a slight scare when Sue miscounted her 5's and declared a score of 348 before recounting!

And that was pretty much it. We all went back outside into the freezing cold and went home for something to eat.

Thanks to the few people who braved the cold and came out.
