Tuesday 15th November 2005
A better turn out at the pub this week, as the weather was a little better for those appearing on foot.
Players:
David, Gordon, Jackie, Jason, Jon, Mark, Mitch, Nick, Sue, Tansy, Tracey
Games Played:
10 Days in Africa
Mark and Nick's starter this week was the quick 10 Days in Africa. Sadly, Nick didn't manage anywhere near 10 days, while Mark grabbed a few of the Jeeps to help him get about.
Mark:
10 days complete
Nick:
about 6 (in bits, really)
Palazzo
Sue and Gordon appeared and we thought we'd get in a quick game of Palazzo before everyone else arrived. Palazzo is a great game, and will always play in under an hour, even with its full compliment of four players.
(windows + bonuses)
Gordon:
24 + 12 = 36
Nick: 16 + 15 = 31
Mark: 21 + 6 = 27
Sue: 13 + 12 = 25
A good win for Gordon, the only one of us who hadn't played before !
Princes of Florence
Jon arrived, clutching hold of a new copy of Princes of Florence, which he'd received for his birthday. As there were five of us sat there, it seemed a shame not to play it!
(score + prestige cards)
Nick:
50 + 5 = 55
Mark: 43 + 8 = 51
Gordon: 39 + 7 = 46
Sue: 41 + 0 = 41 (500fl)
Jon: 33 + 8 = 41 (100fl)
It seemed a shame to do that to Jon as it was his own game, and so close to his birthday too! Actually, it didn't really ... we were quite happy to beat him!
Bohnanza
Tansy, Tracey, Jason and Mitch now arrived and got stuck into a game of Bohnanza on the other table.
Tansy:
14
Jason: 14
Mitch: 10
Tracey: 8
There's no mention of who won the tie-break unfortunately, and so I've shared the win.
Bohnanza 2
Jackie and David appeared, and disappointed to have just missed out on a game of Bohnanza, managed to persuade everyone to play it again!
Mitch:
16
Tracey: 16
David: 15
Tansy: 14
Jackie: 12
Jason: 12
This one looked like an extremely close game. Again, there's no mention of who won the tie-break (at either end) and so we have tied first and last!
La Cittą
The main table had now finished in Florence, and decided to stay in Italy (I think) and introduce La Cittą to Shire Gamers. Having pointed out the errors in my Summary Cards (thanks for that ... more work!), we set off with Gordon observing, as he didn't think he'd have time to play.
As it turned out, none of us had time to play, and we'd only reached the end of year 4 by kicking out time!
Scores at that point (citizens + bonuses):
Nick: 17
+ 6 = 23
Mark: 20 + 3 = 23
Jon: 16 + 3 = 19
Sue: 11 + 3 = 14
Both Mark and Jon had failed to feed their people at the end of year four, so if you punished them -5 as per game end, we'd have scores of 23, 18, 14 and 14, but that seems a little unfair as it looked like I was about to take a hammering in a city that couldn't get any bigger!
Enjoyed by all, and Sue and I were interested to see how different the four-player game was to the two-player that we'd played previously.
Boomtown
While the main table spent the whole evening in various parts of Italy, Tracey and Jason had to leave us and the remainder rounded off their evening with a game of Boomtown.
Tansy:
76
David: 74
Mitch: 72
Jackie: 66
Another close game of Boomtown, with Tansy grabbing a mayorship from Jackie just before the end to secure the win.
And again, the evening had flown by and it was closing up time.
Thanks to everyone for coming once more.
