Tuesday 13th December 2005
Another fair sized crowd in the pub this week. The next Churrasco's meeting won't be until 3rd January 2006, and it was a fun night of games to see out the year with ...
Players:
Gordon, Jean, Jon, Kath, Mark, Nick, Sue, Tim
Games Played:
Fist of Dragonstones
Another new entry in the "games played by Shire Gamers" chart, although Sue and I had played this one some time ago.
Nick:
3
Mark: 1
Sue:
0
This one ended very quickly, as I think it might do with less players. Mark used his veto on the wrong card, which left me clear to grab the one I needed for a quick two points.
Ice Cream
Gordon and Jean had arrived, but were busy eating. As it was making us all hungry, we decided to get the ice cream out!
Mark:
40
Nick: 39
Sue:
33
Another close game, which saw Mark overturn a 5-point deficit to win by a single point!
Diamant
We were now up to seven players, but knowing that Jon was on his way in, we thought we'd continue the short games for just one more ...
Gordon:
33
Kath: 28
Jean: 26
Sue: 23
Nick: 23
Mark: 9
Tim: 8
A really fun game of Diamant, where I had my chance to rake in a whole bunch of gems in the second mine, but wasn't brave enough. In the end, a good win for Gordon, who is not known to be at his best with "push-yer-luck" games!
Goldbrau
Finally we were up to eight players, and we split into two groups of four. Mark introduced one group to another new game on the main table ...
Jon:
90
Gordon: 85
Mark: 67
Jean:
65
A good win for Jon, who then claimed he really liked the game! I don't know much about the game (apart from overhearing the term "drunken bums" quite a lot, but I'm not sure if that was anything to do with the game!), but as I understand it, it was an excellent game once you deciphered the rules!
Ys
While the four above were building breweries, we were buying and trading gems in a far off French city ...
Kath:
88
Tim: 83
Sue: 76
Nick: 70
Sue and I went to all that trouble, teaching Ys to Tim and Kath, and then they wiped the floor with us! I knew I was in trouble after round one, where I seemed to spend all my best brokers and get absolutely no benefit, as well as losing all the tie breakers (of which there were plenty). Very well played by Tim and Kath though, who picked the game up better than I was able to teach it. Next time, I'm going to have to keep some rules up my sleeve for just such a situation.
Ra
Gordon and Jean left us, as did Tim and Kath. So with an hour to go, and four of us remaining, it had to be Ra!
Nick:
48
Jon: 43
Sue: 34
Mark: 14
Another fun game of Ra, with me benefiting from ducking out of two rounds the turn before the final Ra tile arrived, making me gloat terribly!
Another fun evening at the pub, and the next time we'll be there it'll be 2006! Thanks all for coming out again.
