Tuesday 8th November 2005
Another quiet night at the pub, although I think the weather may have had something to do with it this time ... it was horrible out, and that may well have put off a lot of people.
Players:
Brian, Gordon, Mark, Nick, Sue, Tim
Games Played:
StreetSoccer
While waiting for people to arrive, Mark and Nick warmed up with this one.
Mark:
4
Nick:
1
I had been improving at this game, but got severely kicked tonight. Mark's consistently high die rolling didn't help either!
Verflixxt!
Sue arrived straight from a training course (suitcase in hand ... now that's what I call dedication!) and the three of us had a quick go at this roll-and-move fun game:
Sue:
20
Nick: 17
Mark: 8
A good win for Sue, who claimed the -10 at the end for one of her Shamrock tiles.
Cloud 9
With the arrival of Brian, Gordon and Tim we thought the six of us should go flying while we waited to see if anyone else would come in from the rain.
Nick:
57
Sue: 53
Tim: 49
Gordon: 47
Mark: 46
Brian: 31
A rare win for me at this one. I had to reach the top for the 25 points I needed for the game, and luckily had a wild card to get me there after everyone had bailed out (the cowards!).
Boomtown
Sue kindly offered to watch and be the bank, allowing the five of us to go prospecting in this fun little game.
(cash + mines + mayors)
Gordon:
(53 + 38 + 5) 96
Tim: (41 + 33 + 10) 84
Mark: (22 + 34 + 10) 66
Brian: (34 + 21 + 0) 55
Nick: (7 + 40 + 0)
47
I got murdered at this one. In the very first round, Gordon was forced to take a '12' mine, and then immediately rolled a 12! In the second round, I picked up a '7' danger mine and immediately rolled a 2 and lost it! the pair of us never looked back from there! (I also tried to steal 5 and rolled a 4 .... the dice were not my friends this night).
Rheinländer
When it became clear that six was all we were getting, we split into two groups so that we could try out Gordon's copy of Rheinländer, which none of us had played before.
Mark:
65
Gordon: 55
Nick:
40
An interesting game, but one that I think needs a few plays to fully be able to "see" the board and figure out what the heck is going on! Of course, that's the view of someone who came solidly last!
Scream Machine
While the Rheinländer game was going on, they other table had a quick 3-player go at this theme-park-building card game.
Brian:
32
Tim: 20
Sue:
18
Hamsterrolle
There then followed three games of Hamsterrolle.
Sue: 1
win
Brian: 1 win
Tim: 1 win
Very evenly matched, obviously!
Ra
At this point, we lost Brian and Gordon, and it left the four of us to try out Tim's copy of Ra.
Tim:
30
Nick: 27
Mark: 24
Sue: 21
A very low scoring game this one, but still a great game. I may never get tired of how this plays so differently every time.
And that took us to chucking out time.
Thanks to everyone for coming once again.
