How to find Shire Games

Tuesday 6th December 2005

A small crowd tonight with Christmas looming .... just the six of us in a very quiet pub!

Players:

Gordon, Jean, Mark, Nick, Sue, Tim

Games Played:

10 Days in Africa

Again, Mark and I were first in, and the only thing we'd brought between us that would do as an opener was this one, and so we decided to play it!

Mark:    Complete trip
Nick:    A couple of gaps!

I seem to be getting steadily worse at this one every time I play it! My starting set up was appalling, with nothing going together at all, and it didn't get much better! I did manage to steal a tile from Mark that he had put down to pick up again, but it still didn't help! A comfortable win for Mark for starters ...

Palazzo

With the arrival of Sue and Tim, we were now up to four players, and so Palazzo got another play! Still easy to teach and fast to play, this is always a good choice for a quick three/four player game.

(windows + bonuses)

Mark:    20 + 15 = 35
Tim:    15 + 15 = 30
Nick:    15 + 9 = 24
Sue:    14 + 9 = 23

Sue and I didn't manage to get a Palazzo up to the roof, and Mark managed to pinch the victory from Tim, who looked like he had it in the bag about halfway through. The game ended quite early, and obviously just as I was about to buy the winning tile!

Cloud 9

With the arrival of Jean and Gordon, we were now up to our full complement for this evening (six), and so we went rummaging through all the bags to see what we had that accommodated six players, as none of us were really in the mood to split into smaller groups. Cloud 9 never fails ...

Jean:    52
Sue:    46
Mark:    41
Nick:    39
Tim:    38
Gordon:    25

Jean pulled off a good win by playing a Wild card after everyone had bailed from her balloon.

Alhambra

Another game that plays six quite nicely, although you do get a bit of a breather after your turn, as the game position looks so different when it comes round to you again!

Gordon:    92
Mark:    67
Sue:    62
Nick:    54
Jean:    50
Tim:    49

A pretty impressive victory for Gordon, having a majority in a couple of colours. There were an awful lot of ties in this game, with a great deal of points being shared around.

Kuhhandel

Tim had to leave us, and that gave us the chance to try this new, fun little auction game. A little long to be called a filler, this was a lot of fun!

Mark:    2020
Gordon:    1800
Sue:    1680
Jean:    1500
Nick:    650

I really enjoyed this fun game, even though every bluff I tried seemed to fail miserably! The final trade was between Mark & I, where I lost my pair of Horses to him, giving him his second set (he had the chickens as well) and doubling their values. I only had one set (pigs, I think) and Gordon managed three, but their combined scores were only 600, giving him a final score just a little short of Mark.

Ra

Gordon and Jean had to leave us, which dropped us down to three for the last game of the night, which - surprise surprise - was Ra! It's a game that we seem to be playing an awful lot, but then maybe that's because you get an awful lot of game into the 45 minutes it takes to play...

Sue:    50
Nick:    48
Mark:    40

A pretty close game, as always, and a good win for Sue to end off the evening.

Thanks to those who came along once more.
